Day 7
- Hire Car chasing in Nimes (France)

| |
Tuesday - 18th March 2008 |
 |
| |
We
needed to get a hire car sorted out, so to do this, we
need the internet. Option 1, pay for the very slow hotel
wireless facility or option 2, pop along to the local
McD's that Anne spotted down the road and see if they
have a wireless facility. Sorted, the place was being
renovated, but found the essential Le Bacon & Egg McMuff
while I hacked, sorry connected the laptop to the
internet (top tip)

|
| |
Hertz seemed to be offering a fair price, so I called
then and they had a suitable package for a Merc C class
/ Audi A4 for £161 for 4 days, lovely, we'll have it.
And with having a Nectar card and the Focus being
recovered by AA, got the extra discount – at last.
Pickup at the local train station and drop off at Calais
ferry port.

|
| |
Word of advise, don't try driving round Nimes using
TomTom, as someone has had fun and reversed the one way
roads – say no more! |
|
| |
Well, as the train station was only 1/2mile from the
hotel, we decided to case joint and walked down, found
the counter, gave the reference and was told that they
didn't have a Merc or Audi. But they did have a Passat,
erm, not quite what we were looking for, but hey. So
called Hertz back and they said that they had an Audi
and they would put the request in, so that when we went
back at 18:00, about 3 hours later, it should be ready.
Guess what, it wasn't an Audi, not even a Passat, but a
Laguna – where did that come from? Well, gave up, signed
up, having passed the Alpha back to the EuroTrash agent
in the booth next door. |
|
| |
Out of the railway station, down the four subterranean
levels to the underground car park and found the Laguna.
Well, this time we checked the whole car out, made sure
the doors locked, no scratches and yep, looks like the
previous person had tried to ram someone off the road
with the marks on the front offside bumper and the front
number plate looked like someone had tried to rip it
off. So took a picture and back up to the counter,
showed the pictures and they shrugged and scribbled a
note on the paperwork. Back to the car and by this time
Anne had got it setup and we just wanted to check the
boot.
|
|
| |
Have you recently seen the new Laguna and tried to
figure out as to how to get into the boot – if you fancy
a laugh, try it – turns out there is a hidden black
button in the centre of the diamond logo on the boot! |
|
| |
Well, back to the hotel and we're happy – car number 4,
seems ok – well so far.
|
|
| |
Found a fab restaurant just about 1/2mile from the
hotel, really enjoyed it and great experience. Anne had
to be careful when walking back as it looks like the H&S
executive gives France a wide birth and the paths were a
bit, well, 'work in progress'. |
|
Nimes - the Alpha before we took it back car number 4 - the Laguna Laguna's front number plate
again - it was like this when we picked it up it was like this when we picked it up... honest
