Credits & Special Thanks

Justin & Esther Atkinson - the best friends to have
- both Justin and Esther have been providing us with the backup and support that we really required during the extremely stressful period.
- the number of times that they were able to provide that remote internet access and checking when we didn't have access was really appreciated. They provided key information when we were looking for car hire and in particular when we were stuck both in Italy and at Calais during the port being shut.
- to top that they were extremely kind enough to look after Frazzle (the cat) and to pick us up from Dover. No mean feet when we later discover that Justin was rather suffering on the pickup day.
Tim & Kath Ayre - great supporters and again real friends
- during our little adventure, they looked after Jak, our rather loopy yellow Labrador although they did rather take the Mickey out of us! So no change from normal there.

  Buckingham Ford
- James was able to check out the warranty that we had and was able to put our minds to rest as ensuring that we were covered and they would accept the car for the major surgery, sorry repair work

  Ford European Assistance (The AA)
- both Elisabeth and Alan are real credits to the Ford Assistance programme and we will be indebted to them for being able to sort the situation out, getting the taxis sorted, car hire arranged, ferry tickets and the repatriation of STango.

  Ford Focus ST Owners Club
- this website was able to provide some really good assistance and moral support while we were stuck,
- www.focusstoc.com

  SpeedFerries
- a great service, but it seems that they are the first the close in the event of bad weather.
- on the plus side, they did send us text messages to inform of the ferry closure and then they provided a refund.

  P&O Ferries
- well, when Calais was closed they kept going and got us out before SeaFrance
- the only problem was that during our stay at the Calais port, whereas we were provided with a 7 euro voucher, there was not further information provided at all, until we were told that we were to report to the departure lounge. We got the feeling that even their staff weren't being informed and it was just some sort of updates that we were looking for.

  Eurotunnel Eurotunnel Logo
- when the going got tough - we used the tunnel and definitely will consider using them as a first option next time.
- it was just a shame that their ticket office closed on the Saturday so early, especially as the ports were closed as that would have been extremely helpful. That and finding some way for foot passengers to use the tunnel rather than having to hangout at Calais port!

The Following hotels

  Puelles - Abalos (Spain)
- This hotel made the holiday and allowed us the goal to continue rather than quitting and escaping back to the UK.
- the facilities, staff and wine are fantastic and well worth a visit.
- they have only 6 rooms, but are fit to the highest standard and we mean the highest, while also providing a swimming pool and steam unit to allow a way of really chilling out.
- www.bodegaspuelles.com - the winery
- www.hospederiadelvino.com - the hotel part

East Lee Guest House - Dover (UK)
- A fantastic little B&B in Dover, only a couple of miles from the port who were willing to stay up for us when we arrived at Dover late in the evening. The relief that when we were coming back from Calais late, knowing that we had somewhere to bed down was really appreciated, along with the best full cooked British breakfast in the morning was a real welcome back. Thanks.

  Best Western hotels
- Imst (Austria) - Hotel Stern
- Lugano (Switzerland) - Hotel Albatro
- Costigliole D'Asti (Italy) - Hotel Langhe & Monferrato
- Nimes (France) - L'Orangerie
- Chinon (France) - Hotel de France

The Following car rental companies

  Hertz
- just when we needed a hire car, you were able to provide one, shame it wasn't the one that we were told we were going to get and again shame when we find out that the car that was provided was actually a downgrade, but I'll be discussing this with them over the next few days.
- 12/04/08 - received a letter from Hertz giving us $50 off the next rental
- www.hertz.co.uk/nectar

  Europcar - Italy
- Daniel was fantastic at being able to sort out our car hire
- the staff at Turin airport's branch - for their patience at providing the car and replacing the broken Seat for an Alpha and not landing us with the Corsa 1.2 or the Golf 1.6 (yawn!)

And finally the turkey award goes to Tesco Car Breakdown

Tesco Breakdown

Awarded for offering that certain extra...
taking extra money off us, making extra promises
yet failing to deliver and abandoning us in Italy.
Thanks... not!
